    <narrative xml:lang="en">From Forest to Market: Transforming Tropical Timber Supply Chains for Equity, Good Governance and Sustainability</narrative>
  </title>
  <description type="1">
    <narrative xml:lang="en">This project tackles the illegal timber trade from the Congo Basin, which drives deforestation, reduces government revenue, undermines forest communities’ rights, and fuels corruption and financial crime. It aims to achieve a more legal, transparent, and sustainable timber trade between the Congo Basin and international markets. Key beneficiaries include forest-dependent communities, government agencies, private sector actors, and enforcement institutions across producer (Cameroon, Congo) and consumer countries (China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Europe). The project uses a systems-based, inclusive approach grounded in governance reform, private sector engagement, financial oversight, and international cooperation. Activities include strengthening legal frameworks, deploying traceability tools (Timber Tracker), building capacity for enforcement and financial investigation, promoting responsible sourcing, and enhancing international policy alignment. It works with core governance processes such as legality verification, law enforcement, anti-corruption, gender inclusion, and financial accountability. Together, these efforts support long-term forest protection, inclusive economic development, and improved governance of global timber supply chains.</narrative>
