    <narrative xml:lang="en">Social participation for Universal health coverage - evidence-informed NetWorks Advancing Inclusion (SUNWAI)</narrative>
  </title>
  <description type="1">
    <narrative xml:lang="en">The SUNWAI consortium seeks to institutionalise and deepen cross-regional research and action that advances the inclusion of key populations – specifically sexual and gender diverse individuals - in social participation for universal health coverage (UHC), and to understand related contexts, mechanisms, outcomes, and costs using a realist-informed approach.&#13;
&#13;
This will be led by Northumbria University and The George Institute for Global Health, involving collaboration with Hanoi Medical University, Mahidol University and University of Essex as well as community-based organisations, think tanks and advocacy groups in India, Thailand and Vietnam. The project runs from June 2025 through May 2030.&#13;
&#13;
The team will first look at previous examples of social participation movements and UHC reform movements (including but not limited to the target population groups) in each country to understand what has worked, for whom and at what costs. Following that, we will engage in participatory action research in collaboration with community organisations to support their social participation efforts. This will serve to activate and expand coalitions in each country towards more equitable UHC, which will be strengthened through local learning lab activities.</narrative>

    <narrative xml:lang="en">The project has 5 objectives:&#13;
&#13;
1. To align, strengthen, evaluate, and sustain intra-and inter -country academic and civil society partnerships working on social participation of transgender populations for UHC with a specific emphasis on the “leave no one behind” agenda in Vietnam, India, and Thailand&#13;
&#13;
2. To understand the contexts, mechanisms, outcomes, and costs of involving transgender populations in social participation for health initiatives as well as social participation (of any group) in UHC reform initiatives at national and subnational levels in each country&#13;
&#13;
3. To co-produce country-specific as well as cross-country mechanisms intended to enhance meaningful inclusion of transgender populations in social participation for health geared towards achieving UHC&#13;
&#13;
4. To evaluate/assess the relationship of these mechanisms to health system process goals from the perspective of community, civil society, government, and academic actors&#13;
&#13;
5. To catalyse exchange and expansion of SUNWAI in the run-up to the endpoint of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030 and beyond</narrative>
