NL-KVK-27286042-FCDO-301476-402 International Confederation of Midwives <narrative xml:lang="en">Strengthening Local Midwifery Associations with FCDO</narrative> ICM is implementing the Strengthening Local Midwifery Associations project in three of FCDO’s flagship countries: Kenya, Malawi, and Pakistan*, starting on 2nd October 2024 and ending on 1 May 2030. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality in these three countries as well as on a global level. The project funds are split on in-country work on one hand and on core funding of ICM on the other hand (supporting the implementation of ICMs triennial strategy). *Project activities in Pakistan only took place during year 1 and 2 of the project (until 31 March 2026). ICM's overall goal for the 6-year programme is to support selected national midwives associations (MAs) in strengthening their operations, advocacy, and prepardness in humanitarian settings to improve midwifery practice and promote the profession in their countries. Specifically, the focus is on three Output indicators: 1. Capacity strengthening areas of MAs identified and addressed through ICM's Member Association Assessment Checklist (MAAC). 2. MAs advocacy skills to improve the quality of midwifery strengthened and advocacy activities implemented. 3. MAs improved their skills in humanitarian crisis preparedness, response, and engaging with marginalized groups. 4. ICM contributes to policy initiatives, reforms, or legislative changes at national, regional, or global levels that have a positive impact on the midwifery profession. Contributions may include technical support, advocacy, partnership, capacity building, or provision of evidence and resources.
