  <description type="1">
    <narrative xml:lang="en">Bahi District in Dodoma region is among the areas most affected by climate variability and environmental degradation in central Tanzania. The district experiences semi-arid conditions, unpredictable rainfall, and frequent droughts, which have severely impacted crop yields and livestock productivity. Studies show that climate change could reduce maize yields in Dodoma by up to 33%, making farming increasingly uncertain for smallholder households (Siebenlist, Hampf, &amp; Gornott, 2025). These challenges have left farmers struggling to secure food and income, while soil fertility continues to decline due to unsustainable practices and over-reliance on rain-fed agriculture (Mbwana &amp; Bundala, 2023).&#13;
Chamwiilee Agro-Live Organization was established as a community-based organization in 2019, focusing on supporting smallholder farmers through agronomic practices, environmental conservation, and livestock management. In August 2024, Chamwiilee Agro-Live organization was registered as a national non-profit and nonpartisan entity, focusing on promoting sustainable agriculture, livestock development, and environmental conservation. &#13;
The organization works directly with farmer groups and smallholder households to improve food and nutrition security and strengthen adaptive capacity to climate change. Currently, Chamwiilee works with and supports over 25 farmer groups in the Bahi district, Dodoma region, reaching approximately 680 smallholder farmers, where 95 are adult males, 177 are adult females, 142 are youth males, and 266 are youth females. These efforts focus on introducing climate-smart practices, improving livestock productivity, and promoting community-led conservation initiatives.&#13;
The need for sustainable and resilient livelihoods, Climate change mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation, and food and nutrition security interventions remain to be top necessities in the Bahi district and the Dodoma region, as per the Dodoma Regional five-year Strategic Plan (2021/2022-2025/2026, Page 32) and the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 (TDV 2050, page 45). &#13;
Nevertheless, Tanzania’s National Climate Change Strategy (2021) and Agricultural Sector Development Programme II (ASDP II) emphasize climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, and biodiversity conservation as key pathways to enhance resilience and food security. Through the promotion of agroforestry and the restoration of degraded landscapes, the intervention plays a pivotal role in advancing national policy priorities and accelerating progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).</narrative>

    <narrative xml:lang="en">Environmental integrity, Climate change resilience, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation are essential interventions to realizing Tanzania Development Vision 2050 (Tanzania Development Vision 2050, page 45); climate change poses a profound threat to Tanzania’s sustainable development trajectory.  Climate change adversely affects sensitive sectors, including agriculture, forestry, and water resources, all of which are the backbone of Tanzania’s economy (Tanzania Development Vision 2050). These vulnerabilities necessitate urgent action to strengthen Climate change resilience by empowering communities to build adaptive capacities and integrating sustainability (page 45).&#13;
The need for Sustainable and resilient livelihoods, Climate change mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation, as well as the need for addressing food and nutrition security, are the three pressing needs of intervention in the Bahi district as per the Dodoma regional five-year Strategic Plan (2021/2022-2025/2026). The Tanzania Development Vision 2050 also highlights these as the top needed interventions towards 2050 (Pillar three of the Tanzania Development Vision 2050). &#13;
Bahi District faces pressing challenges that threaten the survival of smallholder farming systems and rural livelihoods. The area’s semi-arid climate, marked by erratic rainfall and prolonged dry spells, has led to declining soil fertility and frequent crop failures. Farming in Bahi is almost entirely rain-fed, leaving households highly exposed to climate shocks. Over the past decade, crop yields have fallen by about 30%, and more than 60% of households live with chronic food insecurity (Kabissa, 2023). These conditions are worsened by, among other factors, poor farming practices, poor access to improved seeds and extension services, which limit farmers’ ability to adapt and sustain production.</narrative>
